What use cases does Writer currently support?

Moving flexibly between languages, whether translating content or generating new content from scratch, offers powerful benefits:

  • Shorten sales cycles by creating personalized outbound emails in your prospect's language
  • Accelerate time to market by quickly translating product descriptions into multiple language
  • Improve customer satisfaction by enabling support teams with digital assistants that answer questions in local languages

So what kind of work can you do in Writer today?

Translate English content into another language:

Writer can translate English-language content seamlessly into over 30 languages.

If you're working in a doc within the Editor, use

/ask

Then type your command:

If you're using Ask Writer, you can ask Writer to translate a source, like a URL. Select Add source > Add from URL, paste your URL, then tell Ask Writer which language to translate the source into:

Using English-language prompts to generate non-English content

Writer doesn't just translate: it can generate content of its own in over 30 languages, even when your original prompt is written in English.

If you're working in a doc in the Editor, type

/ask

Then type your command:

If you're using Ask Writer, you can ask Writer to generate content in another language.

Then, you can Ask Writer to translate that content back into English to double-check!

Multi-lingual content generation is especially helpful when you're moving quickly. For example, if you've received a support ticket written in another language, you can use Writer to understand what the customer is asking, then use Writer to compose a response in the customer's own language:

Using non-English prompts to generate content in the same language

Work entirely within the language of your choice! Writer can accept commands and prompts in non-English languages, then generate answers and content in that same language. By default, a prompt submitted in another language will generate outputs in that same language unless otherwise specified. You can also include sources written in the same language as well:

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I learn more about multi-lingual support?

For in-depth information, as well as our scoring and benchmarking for each language, see our developer notes here.

Does Writer offer localization in different languages?

Writer can help customers offer localization by assisting them in translation of their own product names, blog posts, and more. However, Writer itself is only available in English at this time.

P.S. Not sure what this means? While you can chat back and forth with Writer in another language, input commands in Writer or use the Writer extensions to generate content in other languages, the menus, navigation, and UX writing on Writer's websites and extensions is in English:

In this example above, buttons are still written in English ("Add source", "View prompts") as well as UX writing ("What do you need?").

Can Writer check spelling and grammar in other languages besides English?

Use Ask Writer to correct the spelling and grammar of content in a non-English language, using this prompt:

Fix any spelling and grammar errors in the content below:

[paste non-English content]

Can Writer offer suggestions in other languages besides English?

Writer suggestions on spelling, grammar, clarity, and so on are only available in the English language variation specified in your style guide. However, you can use Ask Writer to check for spelling and grammar errors (see question directly above).

If your account supports multiple teams, you can use Writer suggestions to create a separate, non-English bank of terms and snippets. For example, you could create a team named "French" and then create a style guide with terms and snippets in French. As long as users were working within the "French" team, they'd be able to scan French content for French-language Don't Use terms, Use Carefully terms and more. They would be able to access French snippets to insert into text.

We recommend using Ask Writer to scan for spelling and grammar errors first, then moving your non-English content into a doc to check against a non-English term & snippet bank.
