What are highlights?

Once you've finished writing a piece of content, like a blog post, you can instantly generate descriptive or promotional short copy based on that piece of content by using the highlights feature.

By default, the available output formats for highlights are:

  • meta description
  • bulleted summary
  • Twitter post
  • LinkedIn post

If your team has custom formats that you like to use for repurposing and summarizing content, or specific social media platforms that you want to generate posts for, please don't hesitate to reach out to us and submit a request for a custom app.

How do I access and use highlights?

Go to app.writer.com and open up a doc. Highlights work on docs that are between 250 – 2,000 words long, so be sure to select a document of the appropriate length. Once in the document, select the megaphone icon in the top right corner of the doc.

After a few seconds, the new highlights will appear in a panel next to the document:

To copy a highlight to your clipboard, select the copy icon on the top right of a highlight.

To generate another draft of a meta description, summary, or social post, select the redo button next to where it says "Meta description," "Summary," etc. You can review the different drafts of a highlight by selecting the arrows.

FAQs

Q: I'm on a Team plan, and I've run into the words generated limit. How can I increase my word allowance?

Like other natural language generation (NLG) features in Writer (including apps and keep writing), the amount of words you can generate with highlights is based on your team's words generated allowance. You can track your progress toward your monthly allowance in the admin menu.

  • Your word count will reset at the start of each month of your plan. For example, if you first signed up on April 15, your words generated limit will reset on the 15th of each month.
  • If you're interested in generating highlights at a higher volume, contact our sales team to find out more about our Enterprise plans.
