Use Writer to improve your writing in Microsoft Word with our Microsoft Word add-in. This add-in takes your customized Styleguide from Writer and applies it across your document both on your desktop with the Word app and online through Word 365. You can install our add-in by clicking here

How to install the add-in
Installing the Writer Microsoft Word add-in for can be done in a couple steps. You can click this link
, or search 'Writer' on Microsoft AppSource.
Click GET IT NOW
and a pop up will appear asking for permission to install.
Click Continue
to proceed with installation.
After clicking Continue
, you'll be taken to the Office Store. To get started with the add-in click Open in Word
, which will prompt you to open your Microsoft Word desktop app.
Getting started in Word
Once in Word, go to Insert
> Add-ins
> My Add-ins
> See All
. Then you'll see the Writer add-in in the Office Add-ins
window. Double-click the icon and the window will close. If you don't see Writer under MY ADD-INS
, go to STORE
and search for Writer.
Go back to the Home
tab, and the Writer add-in will be on the right side of the ribbon menu.
Next, you'll need to login to your Writer account. Click the Writer add-in icon. A pane will appear on the right of your document. Click Sign In
to sign into your Writer account.
A window will appear with options to enter your Writer login information and sign in. Don't have an account? You can sign up by clicking Sign Up

If you are on an enterprise subscription plan, you'll need to select your Workspace by clicking the arrow next to 'Link to workspace'. You'll automatically skip this step if you are on our Starter plan.
Selecting your Workspace completes set up! Click the X in the upper right corner of the pop-up to begin using Writer. If you have multiple Workspaces, you can switch between them by clicking Settings
in the add-in and selecting a different one.

How to use the add-in
Now that you're set up, let's go over what you can expect out of the Writer Word add-in.
When you are ready to review your content, open up the Writer side panel by clicking the Writer icon in the Home ribbon menu. Writer will then score your content.
Each card gives the error and a suggested fix. When reviewing each card, you'll notice that the issue will be highlighted in your document. You can ignore the suggestion, flag it as wrong, or add the term to your term bank.
After applying your suggestions, your score will improve, and once completed, will read 100%.
If you close the panel, you can simply reopen it from the menu by clicking the Writer icon.
Word 365
To use the Word add-in online, go to your document in Word 365. Like the desktop app, you'll see the Writer icon on the right side of the menu when you are in the Home
tab. Click the icon to begin using Writer in Word. The instructions to use it are the same as in the Word desktop app.
If you don't see the Writer icon on the right side of the Home
tab menu, go to the Insert
tab and select Add-ins
. In the Office Add-ins
window, double click on the Writer add-in under MY ADD-INS
. If you don't see Writer under MY ADD-INS
, go to STORE
and search for Writer.
