Overview of connectors in WRITER
Every connector has a set of tools that give agents read (retrieve), write (act), or delete capabilities. The connectors control page gives you a bird's-eye view of all your integrations. It’s where you’ll manage and supervise how agents access and use your enterprise tools and data.

For your users, the connectors page under "manage WRITER" is their gateway to browsing, requesting, and activating connectors enabled by admin. Each connector unlocks powerful new workflows, allowing users to interact with their favorite tools and data directly from WRITER agents.

As a WRITER admin, you have access to the connectors control page — where you can manage and supervise tool access and usage by agents. Connectors are how agents get access to enterprise tools and data. They link WRITER agents (including Action Agent) to the apps, services, and systems where business context lives.
Connectors unlock powerful new workflows for end users by integrating enterprise systems through MCP. This integration enables users to interact with their tools and data directly from WRITER agents.
What is MCP?
WRITER connectors are available via Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard framework that allows AI models to integrate with various services and tools. These services can include PitchBook, HubSpot, Notion, or other applications that enhance the AI's capabilities. WRITER's implementation of MCP involves a proprietary MCP gateway, which sits between WRITER agents and partner MCP servers.
By standardizing how AI models interact with external services, MCP makes it easier to create powerful and connected AI agents. This enhances the overall user experience by providing more accurate and actionable results. And with WRITER's MCP gateway, we ensure secure, governed access to the right data for the right users.

Setting up connectors

To get started access the Connectors control page in AI Studio. If this is your first time setting up a connector you’ll be given the Connector Quick Start option upon selecting +New connecto

r.

Quickly enable your teams to authenticate their accounts by selecting the connectors from the quick start list. Select Save and these connectors will be added to WRITER managed OAuth apps and they will then be made available in WRITER Agent for your users.

From AI Studio access the Connectors & Tools page. Here, you can:
- Select + New connector to browse available connectors and learn more about the tools they offer.
- Configure permissions for your organization, deciding whether end-users need approval to connect their services.
- Monitor which agents and users have access to specific tools and track tool usage.

Once you select + New connector, a connector library will launch where you can hover over a connector to learn more about what tools are available to be integrated into WRITER.

When you select Details you can learn about what tools within that connector will be able to do within WRITER agents. When configuring a connector you do not need to allow all the tools within that connector to be available to your users. When you select Configure in the top right you’ll be able to select which tools your users will have available to them.

From the configuration module, first select Enable for my org to activate the connector. Then select who in your WRITER org will have permission to use the connector within their agents.
- Allowing All users will give all WRITER users within your org immediate access to the tools you enable within that connector.
- If you'd like to limit who has access to use the connector within WRITER Agent, use the Select teams option. This will allow you to grant access to this connector to specific teams and require others to request admin approval for access.

In the next step you’ll see the options available for how the connector will be managed. Some connectors will require each user to authenticate their individual account while others can be enabled by an admin and not require each user to log in individually in order to use the connector.

Within each Connector there are multiple tools available for your AI agents. The third step in the configuration module is where you will select the tools you’d like agents to be able to leverage. You can select all or any subset of tools based on your organization’s needs.

From the final configuration screen complete the process with by entering your OAuth credentials and select Save to make the connector available to the applicable teams.
If you’re having trouble setting up your self managed OAuth app in Microsoft, please follow the instructions here. For Google users, see these instructions.
Managing connectors
In addition to configuring new connectors, the connectors tab in AI Studio allows you to remove or update existing connectors.
To effectively manage connectors:
- Regularly review and update the list of available connectors.
- Configure permissions to balance user flexibility with organizational security.
- Monitor tool usage to understand adoption and identify potential issues.
By following these guidelines, admins can ensure a seamless and secure experience for end-users while leveraging the full potential of connectors in WRITER Action Agent.
Editing connections

Select the three dot icon to the right of an application and select Edit app configuration to launch the connector module.

This will relaunch the original configuration flow where you can make the changes you require.
FAQs
What level of control do I have as an admin to block/restrict different types of connectors available to my org?
Admins have full control over which connectors are enabled via MCP for teams and agents. Builder licenses can also access the connector library, but they need the OAuth credentials for a tool to set it up.
What happens to the credentials and API keys that are provided to the MCP servers in WRITER?
The credentials and APIs keys live securely within the WRITER control panel. Only IT/admin have access to the credentials by default. This can be adjusted in roles & permissions settings.
Where can I see and manage all the credentials and API keys that are provided to WRITER for MCP access?
From AI Studio > Connectors & tools > Connectors.
Can we restrict who in the org can set up connectors based on roles?
Yes, only Org admin and IT admin by default have access to the connector library and connector setup. These permissions can be adjusted or added to new custom roles under the roles & permissions menu.
Are the MCP servers that connectors integrate with using API keys or OAuth for authentication?
The MCP servers of the connector systems use both OAuth and API keys for authentication depending on the integration partner’s authentication options.
